Free AI flashcard maker for students
Fastie includes a free AI flashcard maker so you can turn study notes into decks you can actually review. Write term–definition lines in Smart Notes, or add cards by hand, then flip through them with a simple study mode that tracks what you knew and what you missed. There is no credit card required for core use.
This page is for students searching for an AI flashcard maker that sits next to homework chat—not a separate paid app. If you also need help solving problems, see the AI homework helper and photo homework helper.
How Fastie’s flashcard maker works
Sign in with Google or email (flashcards need an account so decks can save). Open Notes, write lines like Quadratic formula: x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) / 2a, then choose Flashcards in the note toolbar. Fastie splits term and definition pairs into a new deck. You can also open the Flashcards tab and create a deck manually.
- Go to fastie.lovable.app and sign in (not guest mode).
- Open Notes and write clear “term: definition” or “term — definition” lines.
- Click Flashcards to build a deck, or create a deck under Flashcards and add cards.
- Press Study, flip each card, then mark Knew it or Missed.
Guests can still use AI chat for homework, but notes and flashcards stay locked until you create a free account. That keeps decks attached to you across devices.
Study mode: Knew it vs Missed
Browsing cards is useful once. Learning needs a second pass. Fastie’s study mode shuffles the deck, lets you flip the card, then asks whether you knew the answer. Missed cards cycle back so you see weak spots again in the same session. Scores stay on screen so a short review feels measurable without a complicated spaced-repetition setup.
Use short fronts (“Power rule”) and complete backs (“d/dx(xⁿ) = n xⁿ⁻¹”). Avoid packing three ideas into one card; split them so Knew / Missed actually means something.
When to use AI for flashcards
AI helps most when you already have rough notes from class or from the homework helper. Paste formulas, vocabulary, or “must know” lists into Notes, tidy the wording, then generate the deck. You can also use the AI note builder to draft structured notes from a homework topic, then convert those lines into cards.
Do not outsource understanding. Cards work when the front is a cue you could see on a quiz and the back is something you can say out loud. If every answer is a full essay, rewrite the backs into one or two lines before you study.
Subjects that fit flashcards well
- Math formulas and theorem statements
- Science vocabulary and unit definitions
- History dates, people, and cause–effect pairs
- Language vocab and grammar patterns
- Code: syntax snippets and “what does this do?” prompts
Multi-step word problems are a poor fit for a single card. Keep those in Notes or chat, and put only the key formula or definition into the deck.
Example card lines you can paste into Notes
- Discriminant: b² − 4ac — positive means two real roots
- SOH-CAH-TOA: sin = opp/hyp, cos = adj/hyp, tan = opp/adj
- Photosynthesis: converts light energy into chemical energy in plants
- Independent events: P(A and B) = P(A) · P(B)
After you build the deck, open Flashcards, select the deck, and run Study before a quiz. A ten- minute Knew / Missed pass the night before is often more useful than rereading the whole note.
Limitations
Fastie is not Anki and does not claim advanced spaced-repetition science. It is a free, simple flashcard maker next to homework chat so students can move from “I got the answer” to “I can recall the idea.” Always check formulas against your textbook. School policies still apply: use cards to learn, not to smuggle answers into a closed-book test.
